The second Kids to
the Cup visit to the Belmont Stakes capped off a tremendous
Triple Crown Sweep for the organization, members and parents.
Six winners of the Triple Crown Essay Competition: Olivia Gross,
Alexander Lasky, Sarah Rhodes, Nikki Sherman, Melanie Eaton,
and Katie Roberson visited the final leg of the Triple Crown
in fine style. A host of other KTTC members and parents joined
in the fun to bring the group total to 30.
Early Friday morning
Terry Blair Meyocks, NYRA President and Chief Operating Officer,
met the group on the apron to welcome them to Belmont Park.
Soon, the group enjoyed a tram tour around the massive Belmont
stable area. A first-rate starting gate presentation followed
as KTTC members inspected the stalls of the gate that was used
to break the field in the Belmont Stakes.
Mary Ryan, the voice
of Breakfast at Belmont and Saratoga, escorted the group onto
the backside to meet racing's stars. John Ward, trainer of Kentucky
Derby winner Monarchos, met with the group, as did Nick Zito
and Shug McGaughey. Bob Baffert, a fixture on the KTTC Triple
Crown trail joked with members who displayed homemade signs
supporting several Belmont runners, but not Point Given.
Trainer Todd
Pletcher went out of his way to permit the group to get up close
to some of his runners. Members hugged, kissed and petted a
host of Thoroughbred stars as they made their way down the shedrow.
The owner of Invisible Ink spent a great deal of time with the
group and introduced them to his groom and exercise rider. Everyone
left with buttons proclaiming their allegiance to Inky.
