| National Thoroughbred Racing Association Commissioner Tim Smith presented the NTRA Commissioner's Cup to Thoroughbred owner/breeder Trudy McCaffery Nov. 1 at a reception at the Regent Beverly Wilshire in Beverly Hills.
The Commissioner's Cup is given annually to an individual or organization for making extraordinary contributions to the NTRA and the Thoroughbred racing industry. Previous recipients include the Robbins family (2001), R.D. Hubbard (2000), the late Senator Ken Maddy (1999) and the late Clement L. Hirsch (1998).
McCaffery is founder of Kids to the Cup (KTTC), a nonprofit organization created to attract, educate and develop young racing fans ages 8-16, through programs that provide direct access to the sport's major events and players, including owners, breeders, trainers, jockeys, veterinarians and horses. The organization coordinates internships, awards scholarships and sends children to premier racing events around the country.

A native
of Canada now based in Southern California, McCaffery has campaigned
such stakes winners as Came Home, Free House, Bien Bien and
Bienamado.
"We are
pleased to recognize Trudy's contributions to racing, both in
California and on the national scene, and to honor her for taking
a leadership role in educating a new generation of horse racing
fans," said Smith. "We look forward to working with Trudy and
Kids to the Cup to bring young racing fans to the 2003 Breeders'
Cup World Thoroughbred Championships."
Santa Anita
will host the 20th Breeders' Cup Oct. 25, 2003.
