| California owner-breeder and Kids to the Cup founder Trudy McCaffery was presented with the National Thoroughbred Racing Association Commissioner's Cup on Friday at a reception in Beverly Hills.
The reception marked the beginning of observances for the 20th edition of the Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships, to be held on October 25, 2003, at Oak Tree at Santa Anita Park.
McCaffery created Kids to the Cup to develop racing fans from ages eight to16 years old. The organization coordinates internships, awards, and scholarships, provides children trips to major racing destinations, and offers a series of equine courses and exams for youngsters.
McCaffery been associated with some highly successful stakes winners, including multiple Grade 1 winners and millionaires Came Home and Free House, whom she bred and raced with partner John Toffan.

"We are pleased to recognize Trudy's contributions to racing,
both in California and on the national scene, and to honor her
for taking a leadership role in educating a new generation of
horse racing fans," said NTRA Commissioner Tim Smith, who presented
the award. "We look forward to working with Trudy and Kids to
the Cup to bring young racing fans to the 2003 Breeders' Cup
World Thoroughbred Championships."
Prior winners of the Commissioner's Cup include the Robbins
family [2001], R. D. Hubbard [ë00], Senator Ken Maddy [ë99],
and Clement Hirsch [ë98].
