Amelia Baldree,
from Waterloo, IL, read about KTTC in The Blood Horse Magazine
and couldn't wait to get involved in the action. She began by
organizing KTTC's links page on the web site. Then, she entered
the Race to the Breeders' Cup contest and won a trip to Churchill
Downs. Baldree sent a letter to the editor of The Blood Horse
to thank them for running the original article on KTTC. Her
letter was so well-written that it was printed in the Letters
to the Editor section of the magazine.
Laddie Dance,
one of the owner's of Lemon Drop Kids, read the letter and went
to great lengths to contact Amelia and to invite her and the
rest of the KTTC group to visit Lemon Drop Kid at the Breeders'
Cup. There the group was treated to hats, lemon drops and a
first-class view of one of the favorites for the BC Classic.
The morning
after the race, Amelia led a charge back to the barn, and she
and her KTTC compadres watched as Lemon Drop Kid loaded onto
a van to take him to stud duty. Amelia, who always went by the
screen name of Lemon Drop Chick, got to say farewell to her
'big horse'.
Recently,
Amelia and two other KTTC members who made the trip to the Breeders'
Cup formed an e-mail club designed to keep other kids involved
in current racing events
Amelia Baldree
personifies the spirit, talent and love for the game KTTC hopes
to develop in each member. She is our KTTC Member of the
Month for December.
