KTTC AND SMARTY JONES GO TWO FOR TWO
Kids to
the Cup and Smarty Jones parlayed winning trips at Churchill
Downs into successful journeys at Pimlico.
Over 30
members and parents joined together at the '04 Preakness to
tour the backside Friday morning and to watch in awe as Smarty
Jones won the second leg of the Triple Crown on Saturday.
The day
before the race the KTTC contingent met with trainers Kristen
Mulhall, (Imperialism), Jason Orman (Rock Hard Ten) and John
Servis (Smarty Jones). The trainers each spoke with the group,
signed autographs and posed for photos.
During
the afternoon KTTC members enjoyed the outstanding racing card
and had their photo taken in the historic Pimlico winner's circle.
At night,
the group joined horse owners and trainers at the annual Pre-Preakness
bash at Camden Yards as the Baltimore Orioles battled the Anaheim
Angels.
On Preakness
Day the winners of KTTC's Triple Crown Essay Contest and their
parents sat in box seats as they witnessed Smarty Jones' triumphant
performance. The winners in attendance were: Brooke Ketron,
Ashley Piros, Michael Smith, Ty Diringer, and Lauren Shoff.
After the
race the group was escorted back to the stable area for a post-race
celebration that included up-close and personal time with Eddington,
Rock Hard Ten and, of course, the winner Smarty Jones. KTTC
members watched as the undefeated runner enjoyed his post-race
bath.
As the
sun set in the Baltimore sky everyone agreed that this was a
Preakness they would long remember, especially the members of
Kids to the Cup. It was a Road Trip for the ages!
